Mechatronics (Graduate / Workers' Training Programme)
Programme Info
The IIT Mechatronics programme is a 6-month graduate / workers training programme (for the part-time/modular option, the programme is spread across 12 months). The IIT Mechatronics programme is aimed at equipping graduates and workers with the knowledge and hands-on fundamental technical skills required in an industrial environment. At the end of the programme, participants should be able to maintain, troubleshoot, operate and supervise the installation of various industrial equipment. This skill is required by employers in various sectors that require technical personnel such as the Breweries, Food and Beverages, Petrochemicals, Oil and Gas, Engineering services and Manufacturing sectors, etc.
The Mechatronics programme attempts to help graduates of tertiary institutions and/or workers from industry back-up their previous learning and experience with relevant knowledge and skills.
Mechatronics combines Mechanical, Electrical, Electronics and Automation/Computer/Control technologies. "Mechatronics technology is the operation of computer-controlled electromechanical systems. The essence of it is that the operation of the mechanical system must be performed together with the operation of electrical, electronic and computer control aspects of the system". Mechatronics focuses on the interplay between these separate technologies and their collaboration in an integrated/networked production system.
The programme content covers the planning, programming, and commissioning of networked industrial systems and its associated skills. The participants will use modern state-of-the-art learning equipment at the Institute.
IIT is widely recognized for providing well trained workers for industry. A strong emphasis will be placed on work ethics throughout the course.
Mechantronics technicians can work as:
- Industrial Maintenance Technician
- Mechatronics Technician
- Process development Technician
- Network technician
- Systems Technician
- Instrumentation technician
- Electrical Control Technicians
- Technical Sales
- Facility Supervisor
- Robotics Technician
- Industrial Electrician
- Domestic Electrician
- Technical Operator
- etc.
Enrolment to the programme is continuous throughout the year.
Benefits of this Programme
- Become a skilled industrial Engineer / technician (programme consist of 70% practical modules and 30% theoretical modules). You become competent to work in various industrial and engineering services environment after your studies in IIT.
- Become multi-skilled (Learn Design, Electrical, Mechanical, Electronics, and Industrial Automation trades).
- Strengthen your theoretical knowledge through practical applications.
- Proper ethics grooming through our Work Ethics programme.
- Internship Placements (optional - TAC applies).
- Continuous access to job opportunities (local and International) through the IIT Alumni Community.
Target Participants
- Practicing technicians and engineers (with work experience)
- Graduates of tertiary institutions of science and engineering background (HND, NYSC, BSc, MSc, etc.)
- Tertiary students about completing their education (ND,SIWES)
- Candidates from non-science backgrounds (HR, Technical sales, technical operators, procurement, etc.): Those who desire to join the programme can undergo personal study of physics and mathematics. They are to demonstrate a good understanding of these subjects at the entrance assessment and interview.
- Candidates with special cases may be considered.
Programme Structure
(A.) Full-Time: The full-time programme has a duration of 6 months+. This programme runs on weekdays from Mondays to Fridays (except for public holidays & other school holidays) from 9am to 5pm (sometimes they may be expected to be in school till 6:00pm due to the nature of the course/module).
(B.) Part-Time (modular): The part-time programme has a duration of 12 months+. This programme runs on Saturdays as scheduled. Also, a full week (Monday to Friday - 9am to 5pm) will be required approximately every quarter i.e., 4 intensive weeks will be required during the course of the programme. .
This programme is delivered in 4 phases:
- The Basic Learning Phase:
- The Intermediate Learning Phase 1:
- The Intermediate Learning Phase 2:
- The Advance Learning Phase 1:
Each learning phase has about 5 to 10 weeks (additional weeks may be added when necessary). Internship is optional and it is not required for the completion of the programme (candidates are assumed to have work experience either as workers or during their SIWES/NYSC).
Students may be required to take external examinations before/after the completion of their training.
Students may decide, if they wish, to undergo an online Master's Degree in an Engineering field from International University of Applied Sciences (IUBH) Germany along with their IIT programme or after IIT programme.
Certification
IIT awards to succuesful students who have completed the full programme its certification in the field of MECHATRONICS TECHNOLOGY. This is a professional qualification for employment purposes. However, outside Nigeria, it may be used for academic/performance purposes.
IIT only aims to address unemployment in Nigeria as a technical skill focused institute. Therefore we aim for technical competency in industrial workplace.
Upon completion of this programme, participants can work within high level manufacturing industries or engineering services firms. They can also sit for Professional Examinations in the field of Mechatronics, Automation, or Electrical Instrumentation and Control Engineering, etc.
Professional examination fee is not covered within the Mechatronics programme fees.
