Programme Info

The IIT Plant Maintenance Technology programme is a 6-month+ full-time / 12-month+ part-time technical training programme designed to develop skilled technicians capable of installing, maintaining, servicing and troubleshooting mechanical and electrical plant and equipment.

The programme is particularly suited to individuals who wish to build a career in industrial maintenance and engineering services, as well as those who intend to establish their own engineering servicing and maintenance firms.

The programme combines practical training across several engineering disciplines, enabling participants to develop broad-based technical competence and apply their knowledge to real-world maintenance and servicing situations.

Become a skilled Plant Maintenance Engineer / Technician - the programme consists of approximately 70% practical and 30% theoretical modules. You become competent to work in various industrial and engineering services environments after your studies at IIT.

Target Participants

The Plant Maintenance Technology programme is designed for:

Practicing technicians and engineers with relevant work experience in maintenance, engineering services, manufacturing, construction, facilities or related technical fields, who wish to broaden their skills and become multi-skilled.
Graduates of tertiary institutions with science, engineering and technical backgrounds, including HND, BSc, MSc and NYSC graduates, who wish to strengthen their practical skills in plant maintenance and engineering services.
Tertiary students approaching completion of their education, including ND students and students undertaking SIWES, who want to acquire practical skills and exposure relevant to industrial maintenance.
Artisans and technical workers in areas such as mechanical fitting, electrical installation, welding, refrigeration and air-conditioning, and related trades who wish to upgrade their skills and expand the range of services they can offer.
Entrepreneurs and aspiring engineering-service business owners who intend to establish or develop their own plant maintenance, equipment servicing, installation or engineering maintenance firms.
Candidates from non-science backgrounds such as technical sales, technical operations, procurement and related fields who wish to develop technical competence relevant to engineering services. Such candidates are expected to undertake personal study of Physics and Mathematics and demonstrate a good understanding of these subjects at the entrance assessment and interview.
Candidates with special cases may be considered.

Programme Structure

(A.) Full-Time:

The full-time programme has a duration of 6 months+. This programme runs on weekdays from Mondays to Fridays (except for public holidays and other school holidays) from 9:00am to 5:00pm. Depending on the nature of the course/module, participants may sometimes be expected to remain in school until 6:00pm.

(B.) Part-Time (Modular):

The part-time programme has a duration of 12 months+. This programme runs on Saturdays as scheduled. In addition, a full week (Monday to Friday, 9:00am to 5:00pm) will be required approximately every quarter. Thus, four intensive weeks will be required during the course of the programme.

Certification

Participants who successfully complete the programme will receive an IIT Certificate in Plant Maintenance Technology.

The programme provides a broad practical foundation for employment in industrial maintenance and engineering services, as well as for those seeking to establish their own engineering servicing and maintenance businesses.
