School resumption time is 9am and closing time is 5.30pm with a short break (30mins) at 11am and a longer break (1 hr) for lunch at 1.30pm. Students attend theory and practical classes following a monthly time-table.

They are taught subjects such as Work ethics, Technical communication, Engineering drawing, Mechanical fitting, Electrical installation, Motor controls, Electro-pneumatics, Programmable logic control (PLC), Computer aided communication, and a host of other subjects. Practical content of these courses is as high as 70%. Moral talks are also given from time to time. Every student has a mentor with whom he has mentoring sessions at agreed intervals.

Second year
Students spend 10 Months in a selected partner company for the in-plant training phase following the Dual Training System (DTS) of vocational training. Every week, the student works in the company for four days following a preplanned training plan and comes to school for one day. Companies are encouraged to pay the students stipend for transportation and feeding. They work following the company rules and regulations. The students keep a logbook of their activities which is reviewed  by delegated staff and forms an essential component of the final assessment of the student.

Students return to school for the last two months for final assessment and curriculum review workshop. This also gives interested companies the opportunity to interview them for possible employment.

In their second year, the students may be prepared, and sit for the Diploma examination of City & Guilds of London in applied Electrical Engineering depending on enrollment.

IIT is an examination centre for City and Guilds Examinations.
