Institute for
Industrial Technology

Welcome

The Institute for Industrial Technology has been helping many poor families (hunters, petty traders, teachers, artisans, etc.) in Nigeria to break the cycle of poverty, thereby forestalling associated societal ills including youth unemployment, criminality and other forms of juvenile delinquency. This is being achieved by providing children from such homes with relevant technical-vocational skills training. IIT sources scholarship grants/donations from men and women of good will for these youths who are between the ages of 17 and 21 years, to enable them undergo the 2-year training program in Electromechanics; a course that combines mechanical, electrical, electronics, automation and work ethics subjects.

The training they receive makes them easily employable. To date, more than ninety (90) students from different parts of Nigeria have graduated from the above program. They are all gainfully employed and supporting over 400 family members. Some of the companies where IIT graduates work include Nestle Nig. Plc, Guinness Nig. Plc., Procter & Gamble Nig. Ltd, Adeco West Africa, Tetrapak West Africa, Nigerite Ltd, PZ Cussons, Consolidated Breweries, Nigerian Breweries, FrieslandCampina Wamco Nig. Plc etc. There are currently about seventy two (72) students at different stages of the program in IIT.

IIT is open to the target beneficiaries, irrespective of their religious or ethnic affiliations. Although it started operations on March 27, 2000, it was approved by the Lagos State Government as a private vocational school in May 2006. Over 2000 students and employees have gone through one course or the other in IIT to date.

IIT is an initiative of the African Development Foundation (ADF), a non-governmental organisation with interest in educational and social welfare projects. ADF is registered under the Companies and Allied Matters Decree of 1990 and managed by the Registered Trustees of the Foundation.
